Representative Ron Gerberry says a bill he's pushing should add some clarity to the state's regulations covering those running for county sheriff in Ohio.
You'll remember the lawsuits that arose last year when David Aey challenged incumbent Sheriff Randall Wellington. Both sides landed in the Ohio Supreme Court arguing over Aey's claims he was qualified to seek the office. Justices ultimately ruled he was not qualified.
Now, Gerberry wants to simplify the statute, saying, "An individual that wants to be Sheriff, either has to meet one of the two requirements, being that you have the supervisory experience or have a two year college degree."
Gerberry says his measure recently was passed-out of committee. He hopes to see it approved later this summer.
