Workers at General Motors Lordstown took some time out Thursday to celebrate Black History Month.
The UAW Local 1112 Civil Rights Committee helped organize the event.
Several community businesses and organizations, such as YSU, set up displays. The event, which was held in the East Plant, also featured music and several activities.
"Well, today we are celebrating and educating the people on Black History Month," said Dave Patton, chairman of the civil and human rights committee. "Why is it important? Well we just wanted to be included in the American history, just being a part of American history."
"We have displays and participants from various universities, Youngstown, Cleveland and Kent State," said Patton.
This is the first year for the event, but organizers said they are already beginning to plan for next year.
