The Mahoning Valley is among four long-suffering Rust Belt cities in the U.S. ranking near the top of Forbes Magazine's fastest-growing industrial areas.

The magazine named the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area as the fifth fastest-growing industrial area among those of comparable sizes in the country.

According to the story, "manufacturing has grown consistently over the past 21 months, and now, for the first time in years, according to data mined by Pepperdine University's Michael Shires, manufacturing regions are beginning to move up on our list of best cities for jobs." Other rust belt cities on the list include Lansing, Mich., Elkhart-Goshen, Ind., and Anderson, Ind.

According to a release from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber, just last month the area registered the third highest percentage job gain in the last 12 months in the U.S. behind only Raleigh, NC, and Milwaukee, Wis.

"We're pleased with the national attention the Mahoning Valley is receiving for its significant job growth over the last year," said Walt Good, the chamber's vice president for economic development, business retention and attraction. "We expect that growth to continue based on the strong interest we are receiving for additional economic projects in our area. We are working tirelessly to bring these deals home."

The complete list includes:
  • Yakima, Wash.
  • Sebastian-Vero Beach, Fla.
  • Palm Coast, Fla.
  • Anderson Ind.
  • Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, Ohio
  • Midland, Texas
  • Modesto, Calif.
  • Yuma, Ariz.
  • Lansing-East Lansing, Mich.
  • Elkhart-Goshen, Ind.

Are you blind DB? Look at Downtown. There are many new tech jobs, as for Steel they cant make enough right now, My brother is working 60-70 hours a week and they added a shift C'mon man wake up you Bitter man, what is your major problem, and insulting Ryan, (Who I do not like) give me an option instead of Ryan ( and if you say Jimbo your the one on crack not those dog abusers) This is what is wrong with the Valley and why our best and brightest leave. Negativity. According to your quotes from yesterday in the valley thats a fair wage, I know what you are against what positive proactive things are you in favor of doing to change things?

Are these guys smoking crack? Drinking Timmy-boy Ryan's KoolAid? Maybe they should come & see for themselves how prosperous and developing the Valley really is. The largest new hirer has been Infocision; minimum wage jobs for telemarketers that Timmy-boy keeps bragging about. The new hires at GM receive $14 per hour and reduced benefits. Local steel plants are barely getting by & have cut hours to 50% of what they were six months ago. WOW, we're doing great!!
