FirstEnergy says it needs more time to explain how it would manage a new energy-efficient light bulb program.

The request comes ahead of a Monday deadline set by state regulators. The company's initial plan sparked a public backlash in October. FirstEnergy wanted to charge customers 60 cents a month for three years for the cost and distribution of two fluorescent light bulbs.

Now the company wants an extension to Monday's deadline. Company officials say they need another month to work out the light bulb program and will file a plan by December 31.

I will not pay for them. I already use them and get them at Wal-mart for $5.92 for 3 100-watt bulbs! I will do as you said...

This idea to charge $0.60 a month for 3 years is rediculous as it will cost $21.60 for two light bulbs. It is also technecially illegal as federal law states that if you recieve something that you did not request you can use it and you do not have to pay for it. Unless the electric company gets all of it's customers to agree to pay for the bulbs b4 they send them out then they can-not force you to pay for them. Personally I am not ignorant enough to pay $21.60 for two light bulbs and I hope that no one else is either. I think that your news cast should inform people that they will be expected to pay $21.60 for two bulbs if the power company implements this plan. You should also confer with your legal department as to the legal issue of forcing someone to pay for something they do not want or have not requested I think this would be a news item that will help the people of our valley avoid the huge mark-up the electric company is wanting to subject us to. Sincerely, Willis McCracken Warren, OH
