The General Motors Lordstown Plant manager will be hanging up his hard hat for good.
John Donahoe announced Tuesday that he is to retire, effective Oct. 1. He has been employeed by GM for 33 years and served as plant manager of the Lordstown plant since Aug. 1, 2005.
According to a press release, Donahoe was plant manager at the GM Mansfield, Ohio Metal Center since February 2002 and plant manager at GM's metal stamping facility in Lansing, Michigan since 2000. Donahoe guided the complex through the planning and launch processes of the Chevrolet Cruze and also served as chairman of the 2009 Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way campaign that over achieved a $2.5 million goal.
To ensure a smooth transition, the release states that Bob Parcell has been named plant manager of the Lordstown complex effective Aug. 1. Parcell's most recent assignment was plant manager of GM's Bowling Green, Kentucky plant, where the Corvette is are manufactured.
This is Parcell's ninth plant assignment since joining GM in 1979.
