A mixed breed pit bull Wednesday was found shot to death in a plastic garbage can that had been tossed over the side of a ravine in Youngstown.
According to Youngstown police reports, the medium-sized black and brown dog was found by a man and his wife who were picking up trash in the Ohio Avenue and Tod Lane area on the city's North Side Tuesday. They told police they saw a blue plastic garbage can 30 feet down the embankment of the ravine just south of the intersection.
The dog was partially visible within the can, reports state. A deputy dog warden and a humane agent retrieved the animal from the ravine and found a single gunshot in the dog's left shoulder.
The dog was wearing a collar, but there was no tag or identifier on it, reports state.
