One day after being arrested on secret indictments in connection with the murder of 15-year-old Robert Flynn, Karen Adams and Paul Sundy, Jr. appeared inside Trumbull County's Common Pleas Court Friday.
The Hubbard couple faces numerous charges in Flynn's death, including a charge of murder against Karen Adams. "This case involves a homicide, the death of an individual. The sentence is a life sentence, with parole eligibility after 15 years," said Chuck Morrow, the Assistant Trumbull Prosecutor.
Adams' charge stems back to the early morning hours of August 10, when the 29-year-old allegedly fired shots at a car in her driveway on Stateline Road. One of those bullets killed Robert Flynn of Brookfield, who was one of four teens in the car. Adams attorney says she was just acting in self-defense when that car came to her home. "You look at the door, four people are there, not too much light. This is the township, hard to see what was going on," said Tony Antonucci.
Adams bond was originally set at $1 million, not uncommon for a case of this magnitude. "Our position is with someone that's committed a homicide, they are a potential flight risk when facing that kind of sentence, and a million dollar bond is an appropriate bond to place upon them," said Morrow.
However, after a bond hearing, that amount was reduced to $100,000. As for Sundy, he's facing charges of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice. His bond was set at $10,000. Both posted bond and are free tonight. They'll be back in court again next week.
