Counties across Ohio could lose funding that helps pay for 911 services.
On Thursday, members of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio were at Mahoning County's weekly meeting. They updated the commissioners on their efforts to keep the cell phone user fee in place.
It is set to expire at the end of this year, and that could mean even less funding for emergency dispatching services.
"Unless the general assembly re-enacts that fee, then there's going to be severe problems. Loss of millions of dollars to local government public safety answering points and dispatch centers, and given the financial problems we have right now, it's only going to make our financial situations worse. We need to continue that fee," said Larry Long, executive director of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio.
Each cell phone in the state is charged 28 cents a month that goes to pay for dispatch services.
