Local, state, and federal officials spent some time Monday afternoon touring Steel and Alloy Specialists in McDonald, a company that is looking to become a leader in green technology.

The company is working on manufacturing a state of the art, low temperature, multi-pollutant emission control system for fossil fuel combustion.

"It helps bring everything into compliance for the requirements for the EPA and reduces the acid rain problem with high sulfur content coal," said Nat Gallo, of Steel and Alloy Specialists.

Gallo, and his sons Nick and Nathan, explained to officials, including Congressman Tim Ryan, how the new technology would enable power plants to exceed EPA requirements, protect the environment, and convert pollutants into useful by-products.

The congressman says this is the type of project he is interested in because it will help the area become a leader in green technology. McDonald's Mayor Glenn Holmes agrees.

Congressman Ryan says there may be some money available for the project in the stimulus package and the federal energy bill.
