In Columbiana County, voters said no, loudly, to Salem’s proposed half percent income tax increase. The measure failed 72% to 28%. Columbiana County as a whole wasn’t trying for new money, but just to preserve the already existing one percent sales tax. Voters rejected that too, sending it down to defeat by a margin of 63% to 37%. Also failing was the 0.2 mill renewal of a county health tax. The county Children’s Services levy did succeed where others failed, gaining approval 61% to 39%. Voters looked favorably on most township level measures, only East Palestine Roads, Leetonia Schools, and West Township Roads went down to defeat.

Like its neighbors to the north, Columbiana as a county bucked the statewide trend in saying no to state Issue 3, Casino gambling. However the local opposition was not enough to defeat the issue statewide.
