The Christmas spirit still remains in the home of Marie and Matt Diemert, but just about all of their holiday gifts and other belongings are now gone after they were stolen just a few days ago.
Sometime after the family left for church Sunday morning, someone broke into their home, stealing just about everything they have and making them one of 33 families that have reported burglaries this month in the city of Warren.
Police Chief Tim Bowers said extra patrols are out on the streets, and detectives are investigating the recent burglaries.
Matt, who is blind, makes his living by working out of his home office on computers for others who are visually impaired, and said equipment belonging to his customers also was taken.
"One braille machine taken, one handheld magnifier, five computers and a guitar," said Matt Diemart.
And that's not all. Even their TV and a wall clock were stolen.
"I think even a year from now you will get that sick feeling in your stomach that someone was in your house, you know, " said Marie Diemart. "It's not the stuff so much but someone came in and went through your stuff."
The family rents and has no insurance. Because of the crime, they've had to cancel plans to go to South Carolina to spend the holidays with family.
With tears streaming down her face, 7-year-old Blakely Diemert makes a plea: "Please bring it back so we can just go to South Carolina."
