Thousands turned out Sunday afternoon in Canfield to support a man diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Canfield resident Jeff Schrum is a self employed mechanic.  He has been unable to work the past few months after being diagnosed with bile-duct cancer.  Sunday afternoon,  people packed into Canfield High School for a spaghetti dinner and auction fundraiser.  Jeff's wife, Jenny, is a bus driver for Canfield, and her co-workers helped put the event together.

Linda Cervello helped organize the event.  "A lot of people helped out.  The community, not just Canfield, Austintown, Boardman, everybody has helped get donations.  That's where all these baskets came from.  It's been overwhelming, how everybody has come together."

Jeff's favorite hobby is racing and working on sprint cars. A DVD of some of his highlights was also shown at the benefit.

My family and I would like to thank all those who participated in the benefit dinner. The people who volunteered to work made things run so smoothly. Others who donated monetary gifts and items for the Chinese auction, the live auction and the bake sale were so generous and we are truly grateful. Jeff and I are overwhelmed by the family and friends who came to show their support! We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives! Thank you!
