A Campbell man will spend 13 years behind bars for his role in a shooting death last March.

Judge Scott Kirchbaum Tuesday sentenced Jerry Smith, 54, on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the death of Tyler Simpson, 20, of Warren.

Smith pleaded guilty to the charges last November.

Simpson was killed on Kimmel Street on Youngstown's East Side.

Family and friends of both Smith and Simpson were in court.

"We forgive him because we were taught forgiveness," said Angela Porter, a family friend. "Our apostle teaches us to forgive, and the Bible teaches us to forgive to forgive your brother seven times 70. No matter how many times you keep forgiving, you have to keep forgiving."

Smith faces five years parole after he's released.
