Ohio's secretary of state made a visit to the Valley Thursday.
Jennifer Brunner met newly elected or appointed board of elections members from the region to issue their oaths for their new terms.
The secretary appoints members, one Democrat and one Republican, every two years and then conducts swearing-in ceremonies all around the state.
Brunner was also invited to a meeting Thursday night of the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative. The grassroots group wanted Brunner, who is a candidate for U.S. Senate, to hear what concerns the Valley the most.
Among the key issues group members discussed with Brunner, vacant properties and jobs. "I know the main issue here is going to be jobs," said Brunner. "With jobs there's no silver bullet, but government needs to be able to help cut through the red tape. Businesses create jobs for people, and government should be facilitating that, and not slowing it down."
The MVOC has invited all candidates for U.S. Senate to the valley for similar meetings.
