Mineral Ridge School officials say the district desperately needs a new school building.

The building which houses the Mineral Ridge Middle School, was built in 1924 and is constantly in need of repairs. The building will soon need new lighting, has no restrooms on the second floor, and has extensive water damage. The superintendent also says snow gets in several of the rooms during the winter.

School officials say voters have an opportunity for the school district to get $10 million from the state to renovate the elementary school and build a new middle school if they pass the district's bond issue this November.

"This is the last opportunity for this project for us to get the 60 percent from state," said Schools Superintendent Damon Dahor. "With the states help, we can build a new school and renovate our elementary school."

If the bond issue does pass, the district will build a K through 8 facility and the new building would be completed by August 2011.
