A local children's center is on its way to reaching its campaign goal.

Tuesday morning, the Cafaro Family Foundation announced its investment in Oh Wow! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science and Technology. Flora Cafaro presented the center with a check for $100,000 dollars in support of its Science Makes Cents campaign.

Suzanne Barbati, executive director, said the center hopes to bring in $1.9 million for the campaign as it prepares to open in downtown Youngstown.

"This money means in our community that children throughout the five county region encompassing northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania will have some place to go where they can experiment in a safe, hands-on, interactive environment," Barbati said.

The children's center is expected to open in the fall.
