Voters in Austintown will see a school levy on the May ballot.

The Board of Education approved the measure Monday night.

The nearly three-mill levy would generate about half of the $53-million needed to build two new elementary school buildings in the district. The state would cover 47 percent of the cost. The bond issue would cost a person $7.40 per month for a $100,000 home.

If the levy gets passed, pre-K through second grade would go in one building and third through fifth in the other, replacing five deteriorating buildings in the district.

The state money was allocated in July, and the district has one year to pass the levy to get the matching funds.

The levy was rejected by voters in November.
