In the spring of 2006, Allegiant Air took its first flight from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport to Orlando. Those flights have done so well, that earlier this year Allegiant added service to Myrtle Beach.
Both destinations routinely see planes 90 to 95 percent full. Allegiant is is happy with what is happening at Youngstown-Warren.
"We're among the top ten load factor airports for Allegiant, and among the bottom five cost per turn for Allegiant airline," said Dan Dickten, the airport's aviation director. "So they're very pleased with our activity here."
That success is beginning to draw attention from other airlines. Dickten said that four airlines have asked to meet with airport officials.
Because of that, the airport has decided to launch a web survey, asking business travelers from the area where they go the most.
"It measures how frequently people are traveling," said Dickten. "Where they're traveling and what the priorties are as far as putting together a top ten destinations."
Airport officials will then use that information to try to sell new airlines on Youngstown-Warren. One of the four that contacted officials here offers service to two major metropolitan areas.
Trans-States Airlines is a 50- to 70-seat regional jet operator with United connections that currently fly to Washington Dulles, and possibly Chicago, said Dickten.
