A Monday morning walk to school abruptly came to an end for a 15-year-old Campbell student.

Det./Sgt. John Rusnak, "When she was grabbed by the arm by an older black male, he then brandished a knife." Police say he threatened to use the weapon and forced the girl to walk from Tremble Avenue one street over to Gordon.

The incident allegedly took place in a vacant home. The victim told police the suspect attacked her, then immediately left. She returned home for help.

The girl described her attacker as a complete stranger, but she managed to get a good look at him and later identified Charles Hudson out of a police line up. Twenty-four hours after the alleged assault, the 55-year-old Campbell man was arraigned on kidnapping and rape charges.

Det./Sgt. Rusnak said, "Sexual assaults are very, very rare in the city. We don't investigate a lot of them at all, so it was a shock."

It was a shock felt by the entire community, so officials at Campbell Memorial High School are offering additional counseling services. Tom Robey, Campbell Superintendent said, "It doesn't just affect the victim, but it affects all their friends and people around them because it's a violation of their security and their safety." The students' security and safety is a main priority for both the superintendent and the police. Robey says  they are working very closely with the police on some safety provisions that they have already put in place.

Charles Hudson remains in jail on half a million dollars bond.
