Two Mercer County school districts have stopped using a private security firm after learning that some of the guards were convicted felons or sex offenders.

The Reynolds School District in Mercer County was the latest to drop Pond Security. Pond also was dropped last week by the Moniteau School District in Butler County and the Grove City Area School System.

WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh first reported last week that some Pond employees were questioning the background of some guards.

Kelly Sieber, Pond's executive director, said the company is requiring new background checks of all its employees and has begun using stricter hiring practices to make sure all employees are legally permitted to work for them and be placed in schools.
