A local union is seeing a huge uptick in business thanks to the Marcellus and Utica shale.

The Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 396 said they are seeing more contracts because of the natural gas and oil business. They said they understand the need for precaution when it comes to fracking and the injection wells, but they urge balance when it comes to the economic potential.

"My goodness yes. Just on the V & M Star project, the fabrication shops coming to the area. The commercial growth, the industrial growth as far as some of the subsidies coming from this industry is huge," said union member Butch Taylor.

Taylor said many of these companies are attracted to the area because of the available and trained manpower.

I wouldn't get too excited. Hagan would like to shut everything down. I guess jobs aren't that important.
